The Coca-Cola 600 is the longest mileage race on the schedule, capping off a tripleheader starting in Monaco for Formula 1, and the Indianapolis 500 in the IndyCar series. This is always an amazing day for auto racing fans.
Who is going to win at Charlotte Motor Speedway?
Joe Gibbs Racing driver Martin Truex Jr. (+700) isn’t listed as the favorite, but perhaps he should be. MTJ leads all drivers with a 125.0 Driver Rating across the past five starts in Charlotte (not including the Roval), according to NASCAR’s Loop Data. Truex has led a whopping 716 laps over the past five starts on the tri-oval, running 97.4 percent of his laps inside the Top 15 while posting an Average-Finish Position (AFP) of 4.0. Over the past seven stops at Charlotte, Truex has six top-5 finishes, including two victories.
Truex’s teammate Denny Hamlin (+1200) has some longer odds, but he is right there in terms of consistency at Charlotte. Since the Fall ’14 race he has seven top-10 finishes across the past eight starts on the North Carolina tri-oval, and he has registered five top-5 runs in the past six starts.
Never overlook JGR’s Kyle Busch (+260), the race favorite, either. He has 108.5 Driver Rating over the past five Charlotte runs, and he has 463 laps led. That includes the last lap in a spring victory in 2018.
Who Will Win The Coca Cola 600 Every
Hendrick Motorsports driver and seven-time champion Jimmie Johnson(+2500) is still trying to break an ugly winless drought, and perhaps Charlotte will provide him with that opportunity. He is second among all active drivers with a 112.3 Driver Rating over the past five starts at the track, running 94.6 percent of his laps inside the Top 15.
Penske Racing’s Joey Logano (+850) and Brad Keselowski (+1000) each have one win in Charlotte, and Logano has a tremendous 13.0 career AFP in 19 starts with nine runs inside the Top 10. Keselowski has a 14.4 AFP in 18 career starts with eight finishes 10th or better.
Coca Cola 600 Race
Charlotte Motor Speedway long-shot bets
Stewart-Haas Racing driver Daniel Suarez (+2500) has some longer odds, but if Saturday’s practice sessions are any indication, he could be ready to make some noise. He swept a pair of practices on Saturday, including a best speed of 180.705 mph in the final session ahead of Sunday’s 600. It isn’t a surprise, as he has three Cup starts under his belt, finishing 11th in his debut in spring 2017, sixth in the fall race that season and 15th last spring.
In addition, Hendrick Motorsports driver William Byron (+3500) became the race’s youngest pole winner, and he is a driver with building confidence.
Bonus bets (F1 and IndyCar)
Go with Lewis Hamilton (-350), the heavy favorite, to hold off Valtteri Bottas (+300) in the Monaco Grand Prix.
Coca Cola 600 Schedule
In IndyCar, I like Simon Pageanaud (+700) and Josef Newgarden (+850) to drink the celebratory milk and kiss the bricks at the Indianapolis 500.
